Woodburning - Skill Test - Wolf By BioWorkZ by Stepher17 Woodburning - Skill Test - Wolf By BioWorkZ by Stepher17
This was a lot of work but also a lot of fun. I asked BioWorkZ  if I could use this piece of his to basically, test and further my woodburning skills. This piece is 100% mine and will only be used to show off my skills at shows and to just anyone who wants to know what I have done.

Needless to say, I think I did quite well with it! I'm extremely happy with how it turned out :D

I look forward to hearing what you all think of it!

Note: Picture has been updated to a much better quality. :)

Please! Go check out BioWorkZ and his amazing artwork! Llama up his account! +Watch Him, all that jazz! xD
He does amazing work! I might even do more from him cause I love his art style so much. ^_^

What kind of challenge should I tackle next? If you have any suggestions, I'd love to hear from you!

Cool. I tried my hand at some sketching with a little wood burn tool I grabbed one day (and forgot to use again, sigh lol), though the wood was cheap walmart junk xp. For sure, it is a cool little niche to specialize in, can stand out a bit more vs pencil work.

I left you a comment where you can find more wood. :) It's a great hobby and there's so much you can do with it. I recommend picking it up again. :D YOu seem to have natural talent for it. ^_^ If it is something you want to get dedicated to, then I recommend looking up the RazerTip woodburning machine. It's all I've used for 10 years now. :D

I certainly will! They are awesome! You are really good! :D What machine do you use? I use a RazerTip with a pen/pencil like tip only. ^_^
That sounds amazing! I'd love to make myself a table. :D I look forward to you posting it!

You're welcome! I'm glad people love what I do. ^_^

I have a Colwood super pro 2 with duel pen set up, I got it this past September, before that I was using a $20 craft store pen I can't begin to say enough about this machine, $169.00 dollar range and I've already made more than that on three small pieces.
thanks for the input and I'll be posting the picture of the finished table, I'm currently sealing it now

Nice! I don't think I've heard of that one before. I've only used my RazerTip brand one for nearly 10 years now. :) The RazerTip is in the same price range and they certainly beat the cheap alternatives. :)

Nice! Congrats! Yeah, the art pays for the machine pretty quickly. :D

I look forward to seeing the table! :D

Wow! Excellent work, love the shading!  30 hours? I believe it!  what type of wood burning tool do you use?  do you break up your work time over a period of several days? thanks for any input, just like to discuss these types of issues with people who also burn images. Thank you!

Thank you very much!
I have a razertip machine: store.razertip.com/mm5/merchan…
Yeah, I have to. I try to take a small break every hour or two and after around the 10 hour mark, I need to give my hand a longer break. I generally do my woodburnings in steps. One night I'll sand the piece down and if it's simple enough, trace it out as well otherwise that might get done on a separate day. Once drawn out, I'll start by woodburning the lines. And then slowly fill in the shady, generally filling in what I want the darker spots to be and work my way up to the lighter colors. I track how much time I spend on each woodburning from start to finish. I've built up a fairly large google sheet now so I can better estimate woodburning times when orders or requests come in.

thank you for sharing your process, it sounds similar to my approach, in the break down of a project into several days of work. I don't think people (who don't do this) are aware of how long it can take to render an image.  I have some people who inquire and think I can "bang" one out in a day!  I really try to get into the enjoyment of the process of actually making them and this helps me against rushing.  I figure if I start rushing then I'm just replicating the situation I was in when I worked for someone else and that's one thing I'm trying to get away from.  I'm really impressed by your work output, listed on your front page; that is amazing!  Thank you for the link to the razertip machine site.  Eventually, I would really like to transition to this type of wood burning tool and your excellent work highlights how best they can be used, when used by skilled hands, such as yours.  Keep the great work coming!  Excellent rendering and execution of shadows!  Best of luck to you and thank you again for sharing your words and images with the world! :)

You're welcome! Receiving comments such as yours makes doing this that much more rewarding! Thank you for the kind words! It brings me joy knowing that my work is appreciated by others!

And I relate to the time expectations some people have... currently dealing with that right now! I'm swamped! :)

Intricate and amazingly patient work with a bestial majesty to it.

I tried some woodburning art years and years ago but I never did much more than making some numbers (I was making a wooden sundial) and signing my name.

What say you of making a coiled dragon?

A wooden sundial sounds cool! :)
A coiled dragon eh? I'm sure I could add that into the list. Just to be clear, you mean something along these lines? fav.me/dl7w65 Or did you have something specific in mind? :)

Something like that could work, or an ouroboros. Given of how amazingly skilled work you've done with the wolf, I'm certain you could handle any dragon!
